Pop Music Marketing Campaign

My group and I were assigned a genre of music to create a brand new artist that we believed would best succeed in the music industry. With the genre of pop, there was a lot of creative space for us to delve into and design a successful marketing plan for our artist. The first decision we made was choosing the song that would best capture the artist we had a vision for, that being an easy decision for us to agree on we chose "She Will Be Loved" by Maroon 5.

The first step we took was conducting research on well-known pop artists in the music industry. Choosing two music labels allowed for us to have enough research on their careers and marketing strategies. We made our research based on som of the biggest artists in the music industry such as Beyonce and Harry Styles, that are part of Columbia Records. As well as research on Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande, that are under Republic Records. The compiled research was divided on a chart where the information on the history of the company, other artists and groups that belong to the label, and case studies on these artists were recorded. The artists we chose to research have set and broken records in the music industry, and have some of the most streamed songs at the moment. After compiling the research, we were able to compare the marketing and distributing methods that have allowed them to create such successful careers. We incorporated a variety of their methods into our campaign, but made it unique and distinctive to fit our artist's brand.

Although the song has its own meaning from the original artist, we made our own interpretation of it and made a concept based on it. Working as a group can have its challenges and the ideas may not always be the same so we voiced our opinions on different topics until we reached an idea that we all agreed would be best for our marketing campaign. Every single shot, color, or plan has a purpose in the grand scheme of things. Whether that is in the music video, social media platforms, or the marketing campaign in general, we knew every decision would impact the brand our artists has on the audience and not everyone has the same opinions on what is considered to be a positive or negative choice. Some of our biggest challenges were when deciding on the options for our music video because it consists of small details that can be interpreted differently to others, so making sure our message and interpretation of the song was understandable to others was important to us.

Filming the music video is a task we have yet to do, so while in the process of creating the storyboard for it we have envisioned what we would like it to look like. We are still having discussion about it to make sure we can get very idea out in the open and have the best one used in our project. While we have decided on some of the marketing strategies and methods we will be utilizing, we have to create them and edit some of them to look more realistic and fit the brand we have in mind. Creating the chart with different marketing strategies has made the process easier and allowed us to have more creativity in the marketing aspect by altering some of their ideas and making it our own. This is part of the campaign where the brand has more of an impact, rather than the song we have chosen our artist to based on
